Privacy Policy
Information We Collect
Photos you scan
When you photograph a product for analysis, the photo is resized and sent securely through our servers to our AI service providers — Google (Gemini) and, as a fallback, OpenAI — to generate your result. We do not store your photos on our servers, and they are never posted publicly, shown to other users, or sold. Photos are processed transiently, only to deliver your scan.
Account information
If you sign in, we store your account identifier, email address, and name to sync your saved scans, favorites, and preferences across your devices. Your email and name are also shared with our subscription provider (RevenueCat) so we can manage your subscription and assist you with support requests.
Your beauty profile
During onboarding you can share your skin type and skin concerns. This is stored on your device and in your account backup. If you have Premium, a short summary of your profile is included in AI requests so results can be personalized to your skin. It is never shared beyond that.
Saved content
Your scan history, favorites, and lists are stored on your device. When you’re signed in, an encrypted-in-transit backup is stored on our servers (hosted on Cloudflare) so you can restore it after reinstalling or switching devices.
Usage analytics
We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how the App is used. Events include things like scans completed (with the product’s name, brand, and category), your selected region, onboarding completion, and subscription events. Analytics are pseudonymous — we never send your name, email, or photos to analytics.
Purchase data
Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status (for example, trial or active) — never your payment card details. If you sign in, your subscription status is linked to your account so Premium follows you across devices.
Device and technical data
A random device identifier and your IP address are used to prevent abuse of our AI service (rate limiting) and to keep the service reliable. Separately, if you allow tracking when we ask, your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) is used for install measurement — see “Install Measurement and Advertising” below.
Community Feed
When you scan a product, only the product’s name, brand, and category may be added to an anonymous, aggregated popularity feed (“what the community is scanning”). Nothing about you — no photos, no account details — is included.
How We Use Information
To analyze products, find alternatives, and check product compatibility using AI. To personalize results to your skin profile (Premium). To back up and restore your saved data when signed in. To manage subscriptions and prevent fraud and abuse. To understand usage and improve the App. To measure which ads and channels bring new users to the App (only if you allow tracking).
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that make the App work, and only as needed: Google & OpenAI — process scan photos and product details to generate AI results. Apple & RevenueCat — process payments and subscription status. PostHog (EU) — pseudonymous product analytics. Cloudflare — hosts our backend and your account backup. Apple / Google Sign-In — verify your identity when you sign in. AppsFlyer & TikTok — measure which ads bring new users to Miru (install attribution), only if you allow tracking. AppsFlyer and our advertising partners never receive your scans, photos, or skin details. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Analytics
We use PostHog, a product analytics service hosted on servers in the European Union, to understand how the App is used and to improve it. Analytics events are anonymous — they are never connected to your name, email address, or photos. Events we record include:
When a scan, dupe search, or compatibility check is completed, along with the product name and brand that was scanned. When onboarding is completed, a free trial is started, or a subscription is purchased (the subscription plan only — no payment details). The country/region you selected in the App.
Our PostHog product analytics are not used for advertising, are not combined with data from other companies, and are never shared or sold to advertisers or data brokers. Advertising and install measurement is handled separately through AppsFlyer, described in the “Install Measurement and Advertising” section below.
Install Measurement and Advertising
Miru works with AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement provider, to understand which ads and channels bring new users to the app. If you allow tracking when we ask, we share your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) with AppsFlyer, along with the fact that you installed or opened Miru. AppsFlyer shares this attribution data with the advertising platforms we run campaigns on, such as TikTok, so those platforms can measure the performance of their ads. If you decline, no advertising identifier is collected and Apple’s own privacy-preserving measurement is used instead, which tells us only aggregate results with no link to you. Subscription and trial events are sent to AppsFlyer from our servers through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider, so we can measure whether our advertising is worth the spend. We never share your scans, photos, skin details, or product history with AppsFlyer or any advertising partner. You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. You can also read more in AppsFlyer’s and TikTok’s own privacy policies.
Data Retention
Your account backup is kept while your account is active. Scan photos are not retained after your result is delivered. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form. If you delete your account, your backup is permanently deleted immediately.
Your Choices & Rights
Delete your account in the App (Profile → Delete account) — this permanently erases your cloud backup and signs you out. Delete local data at any time from within the App. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings (Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions). Control camera and photo access in your device Settings. Control ad tracking at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Contact us and we’ll help.
Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll update the date above, and continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
